In the first half of 2019, we’ve had the opportunity to try out tons of Android apps. I mean, a LOT. And out of all the apps that we’ve given a whirl on our devices, we’ve made a selection of what we consider to be the 15 best apps, in our humble opinion. After reviewing the best games of 2019, it’s time to talk about browsers, image editors, and many other great tools.
MANGA Plus
The arrival of MANGA Plus took us all by surprise and there’s a good reason for that: it’s the official app from SHUEISHA for reading manga legally and for free. It’s the perfect app for anyone who wants to follow the typical series at a current pace, since the chapters are available just a few days after being published in Japan. Without a doubt, it’s one of the best manga readers you can find for mobile devices. [Download]
Skit
We’ve been talking about Skit since it was officially released on Android back in May. It’s a complete app administrator that gives you all the details about the apps you have installed. And that’s not all: you can also extract the APK without a problem, including system apps. It’s become one of our must-have apps. [Download]
Spark
The arrival of Spark on Android happened when Google officially said farewell to Inbox. This classic from iOS has landed on Android, conserving its hallmark features: a great design, email prioritization, and no ads. It’s a great alternative for managing your email without a hitch. [Download]
Notion
We have tons of apps dedicated to the creation and management of notes and task lists, but we’re convinced that there aren’t many that compare to Notion. This app may not be the best choice for someone who wants to jot down a quick note, although you can do so without a problem. But it’s a real must-have tool for anyone who wants a complete multi-platform text editor. Whether it’s for working alone or for working as part of a group like in Slack. [Download]
Tor Browser
If you’re looking for maximum privacy while browsing the world wide web, there’s no better alternative than Tor Browser. This project for Android has been around for a while now, but it wasn’t until 2019 that we were able to finally enjoy its first stable version. Anonymity and safety without giving up the features we’re used to seeing in other Android browsers. [Download]
Scribbl
We’re seeing a new wave of image editors that focus all their efforts on shining for one single feature. In this age of Instagram, we’ve been especially impressed with Scribbl, a great app for giving unique effects to photos. In this case, you get to play with light, since Scribbl creates a sort of neon light look on your images. Thanks to this app, your pictures can look like they just got back from a trip to old-school Hong Kong. [Download]
Appy Weather
Talking about meteorological apps sounds yawn-worthy given the enormous number of alternatives available. That’s why it’s even more impressive that Appy Weather was chosen to be among our favorites this year. It’s an app that won us over with some very clear hallmarks: minimalism, directness, and no frills. We want the weather and that’s exactly, and only, what this app gives us. Plus, it’s easy on the eyes. [Download]
Sticker.ly
All users jumped for joy when stickers come out on WhatsApp. Although its features are still a little, um, unrefined. However, a bunch of apps have come out to improve the WhatsApp sticker experience. We have no doubts that Sticker.ly is the best of all the apps that let you create your own sticker packs. And it lets you do it all quickly and easily. [Download]
HalftonePix
It’s not always easy to give your images an interesting effect, but thanks to HalftonePix, you can pull off cool looking photos without a problem. This editor makes it easy to add a half-tone technique to any photo: choose the image, the style, gradient, and done. That’s all it takes to get some interesting artistic photos. And best of all, it has more customization tools that follow along the same lines, in case you want to play around with the style. [Download]
Firefox Preview
Mozilla has been trying to put a spin on its mobile device strategy for a while now. The release of Focus was the first step, but now they’ve decided to combine this privacy experience along with the features of Firefox in a new app: Firefox Preview is the future of the company on mobile devices. It’s still in tester phase and it has a ways to go still, but so far its future is looking bright: twice the speed of the current Firefox, a minimalist design, and protection against invasive trackers. Steam Chat
Every since Steam arrived on Android, we’ve been complaining that the app is severely lacking in terms of features. As a security tool it works great, but the rest of the features leave much to be desired. The chat feature, for example, isn’t very good. But the company of Gabe Newell is always moving forward, even if slowly. That’s why now we can finally enjoy an app dedicated to the Steam user profile. Chatting just got easier, faster, and more convenient, more like with the traditional desktop client. [Download]
Adobe Premiere Rush
There are plenty of video editors on Android that are great, but this world came to a halt when Premiere Rush came on the scene. This app manages to bring the editing experience from Premiere to mobile devices. The interface is great, so users won’t lose their mind with the endless possibilities the editor has to offer. The problem is that, for now, it’s only available on high end devices and after a trial period, requires a monthly subscription. [Download]
Abstruct
For many Android users, customization is one of the most common goals. Whether it’s changing the launcher, an icon pack, or specific widgets. But there’s no doubt that the wallpaper is one of the most typical modifications. And if you don’t want to waste too much energy searching for the perfect wallpaper, Abstruct is your app: it has over 300 wallpapers in 4K. What more could you want? [Download]
Mint Browser
Xiaomi has been playing around with the release of new apps for use on any Android device: Survival Game is their try to break into the world of videogames and Mint is a browser that you don’t want to miss out on. It’s the perfect app for more humble devices thanks to its size: only 10 MB. The good thing is that it has all your basic needs: great performance, night mode, tabbed browsing, pop-up blocker, and more. [Download]
Enlight Pixaloop
Adding cinematography to images is nothing new, since thanks to vimage you can use this effect in a great way. But Enlight Pixaloop has taken it up a notch, giving you even more possibilities to add movements to your images. It requires a bit more effort on your part, the results are really spectacular.
