There’s a new Nintendo game in sight: Pokémon Quest is the new release from the everlasting franchise created by GAME FREAK. It’s a new game that’s expected to be different from the Pokémon titles that we’re used to and that anyone with a Nintendo Switch can already enjoy for free. But never fear; the game will be be available on mobile devices by the end of June.
We’ve started to lose count of all the Pokémon games available on Android. Which is a good thing for any fans and for the mobile medium. Pokémon Quest will be a welcome addition to the party given that it’s a free game where you can make in-app purchases if you so choose. Polygon has already made it known that there will be some packs available worth between $5 and $18. This isn’t too surprising nowadays, but we hope that it won’t be a hindrance for anyone who wants to play completely for free. Anyways, we’re getting ahead of ourselves a bit here…we haven’t even mentioned what Pokémon Quest is all about.
The action in the new Pokémon game will take place on and island (Tumblecube Island) where you’ll find the traditional Pokémon with a look that’s closer to Minecraft than the work from Nintendo. Seeing Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Eevee and the rest of the characters converted into voxels is pretty interesting and their movements goes along with their new look. You can’t control their movement, as your Pokémon move however they want, automatically heading toward any enemy who dares to cross their path. Your job is to choose the attacks you want your team of three to do, a lot like in other automatic RPGs we’ve seen on Android.
Luckily, it’s not all fighting and you’ll have a base that you can personalize however you want with different objects that you discover as you go (or buy directly). Plus, you can cook up different recipes to attract other new Pokémon to your camp to join your company. Seasoned mobile gamers will already be familiar with these features, although never in a Pokémon game. This game also lets you improve each one of your Pokémon with Power Stones, through training, or with the always interesting evolution. Plenty of possibilities to keep things interesting.
This isn’t the only surprising announcement though; there are also two new Pokémon games coming to Nintendo Switch and that are connected to Pokémon GO. They’ve already announced that we’ll be able to send gifts between games, which include new Pokémon and that there will be special events. That said, we’ll have to wait a while to discover these new games since they’re not due to be released until November 16, 2018.
