The use of Instagram Stories is becoming more and more commonplace and with each update of the app, it’s becoming even clearer to see. In fact, a lot of Instagrammers use the social network primarily for this feature “copied” from Snapchat and the new update of Instagram is sure to make that number of users go up. The 25th version of the app brings two brand new features for Stories now that they won’t expire anymore: the possibility to create a Stories Archive and the option to anchor your favorite stories to your profile.

Instagram Stories

These two new features presented in the latest version of Instagram go hand in hand and give an enormous weight to Stories and the way we communicate through the app. That said, Instagram is straying quite a bit from the original objective of the stories feature: to give glimpses of our lives in posts that disappear in 24 hours. Which of course we can continue to do, but now they don’t matter as much with the ability to spotlight the stories you want for an unlimited amount of time.

These “Highlights” will be collections of the stories that you want to anchor permanently to your profile. This new feature will occupy the space between your description and your normal posts on your profile. To use them all you have to do is tap the new circular icon found on the left and then select the different stories from the new file containing your new collection of highlights. You can configure the cover and the name of it to keep it nicely organized. Anyone who visits your collections will see the stories as usual.

As mentioned above, these new highlighted collections wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for the new Stories Archive. All the new Stories you post will automatically be saved in this new section for you to use them however you want. The file is private and is organized according to the date it was created, with the newest stories at the bottom of the new storage system. When you select any of your saved stories, you can create a new Story with it, share it as a regular post, or add it to your highlights.

Don’t stress if you don’t have this new feature yet. It’s gradually making its way to all profiles. Just make sure you have the latest available version installed and it’ll only be a matter of time before you’re able to start cataloging your stories.
