The world of videogames is packed full of stories featuring men. It’s a fact that this has been going on for decades but fortunately, little by little, things have finally begun to change, mature, and evolve. We need more women being featured in video games (and programming, illustrating, and production, too). This is why we’ve put together a list of 50 games featuring female characters. Who knows, maybe next year we can make a list of 100 games. And with any luck, this type of list won’t even be necessary in a few years.

We’re not going to lie … we really like Nordic mythology. The mobile world is full of works that take the minimalist path. Puzzle games are one of the most common genres for games aimed at girls, but usually they don’t stray from standard norms. Although we love to recommend fun and happy titles, we’d be remiss to skip out on essential titles like Missing. It’s a game that puts you in the shoes of a girl who’s been kidnapped and forced into prostitution. It’s a heartbreaking but necessary game that helps build awareness of a global problem. [Download]

While it might be true that platformers aren’t as popular as they once were, there will always be space on our list for a few. Especially when they’re so good that you’ll cry tears of joy thanks to its old school style. 16 bit never goes out of style. [Download]

It’s time to save the world alongside Yami, a ninja and the main character of this fun clicker. This unusual mix of medieval fantasy and oriental elements is really fun. It’s not the most innovative game in the world, but few idle clickers are. But be careful, it’s addictive. [Download]
Soy Luna – Tu Historia
Games adapted from television shows that use real images usually aren’t very good. One good example is Soy Luna – Tu Historia, a conversational adventure that’s perfect for fans of the series and of the genre in general. [Download]

We’ve eliminated a great number of management games from this list because we wanted to talk about the Delicious saga. It’s a beautiful franchise of games in which you take on the problems of working mothers. It really just scratches the surface, but the basis is there: you have to move from each job you encounter to another. [Download]
