There’s no denying that Genshin Impact has been a monumental success. Since its release, millions of players have been drawn into this universe thanks to its open-world format, entertaining gameplay, and spectacular artwork. That’s why all eyes are already on Zenless Zone Zero, the next great free-to-play game that MiHoYo, the studio behind Genshin Impact, is already busy preparing.

We’re here today to make sure you’re aware of everything going on with Zenless Zone Zero and understand what kind of game it is, in addition to its similarities and differences with Genshin Impact. We’re going to tell you everything you need to know, from its (possible) release date to its main gameplay features.

What is Zenless Zone Zero?

Zenless Zone Zero is the upcoming project from MiHoYo, the studio behind the successful Genshin Impact. It’s an action game with roguelike details, set in a post-apocalyptic urban environment where high technology is the norm. It’s a project for PC and mobile devices that will utilize a free-to-play format. In other words, it will be completely free to play, but it will possibly include some paid elements as well.

The game has an important narrative component in which futuristic dystopian elements are intermingled with some other paranormal elements, similar to JRPGs like Shin Megami Tensei.

However, in terms of gameplay, the title focuses on a combat system that aims to be both satisfying and challenging for even the most skilled players, with this being the focus of all the action. And it’s all wrapped up in a neat little roguelike package that adds variety to the combat and allows players to advance through the levels as they upgrade their gear and earn other types of improvements and permanent objects.

Differences and similarities with Genshin Impact

Despite coming from the same development studio, the similarities between Genshin Impact and Zenless Zone Zero are actually pretty minimal. In addition to the anime-like and highly detailed art style, the main similarity between both titles lies in their service format: free-to-play but with in-game gacha elements that encourage players both to play more and to spend money.

The differences are more extensive: first of all, Zenless Zone Zero abandons the open world and exploration to focus on a melee combat system that serves as the basis for its roguelike gameplay. On the other hand, the narrative component seems to have much more prominence, with cinematics that reveal a really interesting story.

Release date and price

Zenless Zone Zero will be released as a free-to-play game with in-game purchases. It will be available in PC, iOS, and Android versions.

Currently, there’s no set release date for Zenless Zone Zero, but its release has been confirmed, on both PC and phones, for sometime in 2023.

As for a possible beta, an initial closed test was held last August in which some players could try the game. However, for the time being, we don’t know if there will be more betas, although it is conceivable that, throughout 2023 and as the official release approaches, the game will be opened to more and more players around the world.
