Now that the long-awaited Diablo IV is about to make its big debut on computers and consoles, many people are wondering what will happen to Diablo Immortal, the mobile game that Blizzard launched almost a year ago. Will the two games be connected? Will the free-to-play game stop receiving updates? We’re here to answer all your burning questions about this new development.

Will Diablo Immortal stop receiving updates when Diablo IV is released?

Diablo IV will be released on June 6, about one year after the final release of Diablo Immortal on phones. This has led many people to think Blizzard might drop this project, perhaps smaller than the main installment, but nothing seems to point in that direction. In reality, Diablo Immortal is still in good shape and continuously receives updates. In fact, Season 11 just began a few days ago, with new missions, battle pass, and other new features, so it doesn’t seem like the release of Diablo IV will have any negative effects on Diablo Immortal.

Will there be a connection between Diablo Immortal and Diablo IV?

It should be noted that Diablo Immortal and Diablo IV are completely independent experiences and two different games. Unlike other franchises (like Call of Duty, for example), there will be no connection or shared progress between the two. This means that your Diablo Immortal characters can only be used in the mobile game, and Diablo IV characters will only be available in that game.

However, there is an open possibility of a connection between the two games: for example, pre-ordering some Diablo IV editions unlocks content in Diablo Immortal. This is common in Blizzard games, and this time, if you buy any edition of Diablo IV, you can get the Winged Darkness cosmetic set for Diablo Immortal. This is a good sign that there may be more crossover content shortly, but nothing has been confirmed at the moment.

One thing we can be pretty sure about is that Diablo IV’s economy system will not be identical to Diablo Immortal’s since it’s being developed by two different teams. The new game’s team has wanted to distance itself from the criticism received by the mobile game for its aggressive micropayment system. We doubt there will be shared battle passes or similar things in the future, and although we can’t completely rule out events that may connect the two games, it seems unlikely.

Where do these games fall in Diablo’s history?

The most unmistakable sign that Diablo IV and Diablo Immortal won’t be connected is that the mobile game is set long before the new installment of the role-playing saga. Narratively, Diablo Immortal is situated between the events of Diablo II and Diablo III, so it wouldn’t make much sense for the two games to share a universe, settings, characters, or plots.
