The popular Instagram functionality to create and share disappearing posts now has a new dimension that’s sure to make it more popular than ever: the option to view people’s Stories over the web version of Instagram. That said, for now it’s only confirmed that this’ll be possible on smartphone web browsers, meaning the desktop version will probably have to wait.
Though most people use Instagram over the app, the option to view Stories straight from the Instagram website is a logical step forward for a feature that gets used by more than 250 million people, according to the company’s own data. What started as a Snapchat invention has ended up becoming a proper revolution for the photo-based social network – a hit that Facebook has integrated into its own app and that WhatsApp added as well, though to rather disappointing result.
To use Stories over the web version you’ve just got to go to the Instagram website and log in. You’ll then see the Stories in the same place as in the app: at the top of the screen. Browsing through them is similar, too: tap the circles for the people you follow to open their stories and flick from one to another by tapping the arrows that appear on both sides of the screen.
This new feature is already active, though it hasn’t rolled out yet to all users. I’m in the latter group, so I still have to wait a bit to enjoy Stories over the Instagram mobile site. Over the coming weeks it should be out for all users and soon you’ll also be able to post stories from the site, too, though Instagram has said that’ll take a few months.
