Each day is one day closer to having Ubuntu’s mobile operating system in your hands. According to Mark Shuttleworth’s statements in The Washington Post, Ubuntu Phone OS will hit two big markets in October.
There still isn’t word as to which markets he is referring to, but its very likely that one of them will be the United States. In either case, it’s just a matter of time before the new OS is available for purchase where you live, which would be a big development in the smartphone market.
One of the fears about Canonical’s operating system is the decision to not use any buttons, but rather to focus on an entirely touchscreen interface. They assure us that it will be spark a revolution – a step in the direction that the rest of OS developers should follow.
Because it is compatible with the majority of devices that are also compatible with Android, it is very likely that it will bring a lot of competition to the table. Only time will tell if its popularity will be similar to that of its desktop operating system, or if it will achieve an even greater market share in the mobile phone arena.
