Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right? Instagram has certainly taken that to heart and went ahead and took notes from Snapchat on how to make their users’ content more fleeting by creating “Stories.” A sequence of pictures with a few dabs of filtering and effects here and there, but ultimately a much less refined product than your average Instagram post–that is Stories. With transience in mind, Instagram Stories is here with a new feature that allows users to make brief slideshows that are only visible for 24 hours.
In order to use Stories, install the latest version of Instagram for Android (v. 9.1.0). Bad news for some users–Stories isn’t fully available to everyone just yet. You’ll only get access to Stories if you have an active Instagram account that has been on Instagram for a considerable (but undetermined) amount of time. Those of you lucky few who do have it available will know because of a bar that appears in the upper part of your screen where you’ll be able to create stories and check out your friends stories.
There’s not a lot of room for creativity when it comes to editing your creations. You’ll get to upload pictures and edit them later on by adding text or scribbles that you make on by hand. Each image is visible for one second and you choose the order in which your photos appear.
