Upon entering the world of CineTrak for the first time, you’ll notice the incredible Material Design that lets you easily navigate through columns by swiping left to right and vice versa. The app has a fantastic UI, and features all kinds of recommendations from the get go. You can navigate by genre, recent trends, box office hits, upcoming premiers, and so on. The variety of recommendations goes even further if you create an account, which will create customized lists based on your viewing and rating history. You can rate movies to your hearts content, since CineTrak uses the same database as Trakt. You can also see ratings from other sources, like IMDB, Metacritic, and Rotten Tomatoes. They might not always be the most reputable reviews in the world of cinematography, but they are the most relevant and popular.
There is much more to watch than just movies, and one of the great things about CineTrak is that it has the same system for both movies and television series. To get there, use the side menu that you also use for ratings, and start following your favorite shows or discover new ones. The app goes deep into detail – for each movie or show, you can see everything from the cast to the production crew, and can access other works by the same people by simply tapping their names. In addition, you can make your own lists to keep all of the information you want neatly organized.
CineTrak is an excellent app to learn about and discover movies and series, and has a fantastic Material Design interface. It’s not perfect, like anything else in this world, and a few of the features are only available in premium mode, like curated lists and recommendations by their staff. You aren’t really missing out on much though, since the free app is already marvelous. It’s definitely a great choice for ‘Seventh Art’ aficionados.
