After becoming one of the most popular mobile games of 2022, Marvel Snap begins its second year on the market with a good user base, but with many, many challenges ahead: Nuverse, the developer of this successful card game, has a roadmap to stick to in order to continue developing this acclaimed project. But what new features does Marvel Snap need to add in order to maintain its popularity? We’ll tell you some of them below.

What is Marvel Snap?

Marvel Snap is a card game where two players face off in quick rounds lasting a max of 10 minutes each. The characters from Marvel comics are transformed into cards with special powers that you need to use on the battlefield: the first player who conquers three zones is the winner. Plus, you can collect new cards and effects to customize the different decks you use during the game.

Why is Marvel Snap so popular?

Although it came out almost at the end of the year, Marvel Snap has become one of the most popular video games for phones. There are a few good reasons for its success. For example, the fact that the main characters on the cards are famous (and not so famous) Marvel characters. It also has a lot to do with its fast and addictive gameplay, ideal for playing short and sweet rounds, whenever you want. Of course, we can’t ignore the fact that its rapid growth is also due to the fact that it’s a game that is available for free on phones.

New Marvel Snap features we hope to see in 2023

Already a truly successful game, 2023 looks like it’s going to be a decisive year for Marvel Snap: it’s time for Nuverse to prove whether it’s capable of maintaining that popularity and capitalizing on its good game base. To do so, it’ll have to make some improvements, add more content and tweak certain settings, among other things. These are the new features we’d like to see this year in Marvel Snap:

New game modes

Currently, Marvel Snap doesn’t have any game modes, simply a button that gives you access to the standard rounds and nothing more. We know that the developers are working on new modes to give it an extra touch of fun, mostly focused on playing against friends and competitive battles. But we would definitely like to see other types of rounds with story-focused modes for single player, perhaps challenging players to win with original limitations.

Improved competitive systems

Of course, Marvel Snap has made it clear that it has an excellent foundation to become a high-level competitive game. However, it still has a long way to go in order to do so. What it lacks is specific systems and improvements within the existing ones. Leagues, tournaments, clans… not to mention all the adjustments that Nuverse needs to make to the cards, a calibration that should become more frequent.

Changes and new features in season passes

Although it is a free game, based on the free-to-play model, Marvel Snap offers a battle pass that rewards those who have purchased it. In the early seasons, it brought with it somewhat disappointing rewards, that’s for sure, and it was hardly worth the effort to go out and unlock all the levels. We’d like this system to have more weight, for the main card, the last prize we unlock, to be much more special than the one we’ve been able to get in the first season pass.

More special events

Lastly, one of the new features we’re most hoping to see offered in Marvel Snap in 2023 is a new selection of special events to make the game more dynamic throughout the year. Competing in quick matches is great, but being able to keep getting cards, variants and festive elements thanks to leveling up is one of the things that can help this popular card game continue to enjoy the same popularity during its second year on the market. Special events have already been held, including ones for Halloween and Christmas, but we want to see more and with more content.
