A few days ago the first clear indications began to arrive that VoIP calls were becoming a reality on WhatsApp, although the process to get the feature was a bit complicated and only available to root users. But with the latest WhatsApp update for Android (2.11.531) some users have received this new option, and the only thing you need to do to get it yourself is receive a call from one of those users.
Some of the ‘chosen ones’ with this new feature have offered to call others and thus expand the feature as quickly as possible. In fact, a member of the XDA Developers Forum offered to call anyone who requested him to and in just a few hours received more than 500 requests.
Such is the flood of calls being made that the WhatsApp servers seem to have been swamped and it’s now impossible to make calls even with the new option enabled. We’ll let you know as soon as it’s back up!
