An important new update has just come out on Instagram: you can now create one post with several pics and videos, like a gallery. This addition lengthens the list of substantive changes that this popular social network made throughout 2016 and that it seems to be carrying on with in 2017.

This feature lets you create an album of sorts where you can include up to 10 photos and videos. This feature could help prevent seeing a zillion back-to-back posts by the same users and offer a new home for much of the content now rolling around in Instagram Stories. It might not jive with what Instagram used to be back in the old days when it was first started, but it could be an interesting option for sharing other kinds of content.

The way these gallery-type posts work couldn’t be simpler. Just tap the select-several-images icon, found alongside the Layout icon, in the screen where you create posts. Then select the media you want to include and organize it as desired. Plus you can apply your fave filters in one of two ways: across all the content or on each pic individually. That said, you can only add one caption, and for now the feature only works in square format.

Instagram posts that have more than one photo or video are marked with a small indicator at the bottom of the post. You can browse through the gallery by moving your finger from one side to the other.

If you still don’t see this new feature, make sure you’ve got the latest version of Instagram installed (here’s the APK) and try restarting your phone. If that doesn’t work, don’t worry as it’s sure to show up sooner rather than later, as with most updates from Instagram.
