The BAFTAs are known worldwide for recognizing the best movies and TV shows, most of them British, but few people realize that since 2004 they’ve run parallel awards focused exclusively on gaming. The British Academy Games Awards have become an ever-bigger deal with every year that passes, as there’s no other big-name gala recognizing excellence in the world of online entertainment. And as you’d expect, this year there are several mobile video games among the nominees.
Best mobile game
The Mobile category includes games released for smartphones, tablets, and handheld consoles. Though in the past the games that have dominated this category were console games, this year smartphone games made a big impact, with almost all the nominees being available for Android. Not all of them are free, though. Still, we’ve provided links for the ones that are in the full list below. We’ve gotta say that all of them are worth checking out.
- Pokémon GO
- Dawn of Titans
- Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon
- The Banner Saga 2
- Deus Ex GO
- Reigns
Other nominees on Android
Though it seems counterintuitive, there are a couple other Android games nominated outside the Mobile category. First we’ve got that hard drug called Clash Royale nominated to the People’s eSports category alongside heavyweights like League of Legends, Overwatch, and DOTA 2. This award is decided by the public, so check out this link and vote! Plus Pokémon GO has another nomination for Best Family Game, so it’s got a good shot at carrying one of the categories at least. We find out the results on April 6.
