Kim Dotcom has appeared on the scene again, this time to discuss the release date of Megabox, a web service for downloading and listening to music. It will be launched just a few months after Mega, his other project considered to be Megaupload’s successor. It’s important to point out the difference between the services now that Mega will be launched soon, and that they have already started working on the release of Megabox.

Megabox cabecera 1 Megabox will be released a few months after Mega

Megabox will be used to play and download music for free, based on Megakey’s business model, which displays personalized advertising while you use the application. The majority of the income generated from the advertising – 90% of all earnings – will go to the artists themselves, and the rest will be to maintain the service. You can also get rid of Megakey by paying a monthly fee.

If Megabox does end up being launched, the music industry as we know it would take a big hit, whos out-of-date business model needs reform. In fact, many musicians have already shown support for the proposal, including Kanye West, Alicia Keys, and Snoop Dogg. Let’s not forget that video that was released over a year ago in support of Megaupload, in which Will.I.Am, Snoop Dogg, Chris Brown, Kanye West, Lil John, Jamie Foxx, and Serena Williams participated, showing their support for these kinds of projects.

However, Mega follows a similar philosophy to that of its predecessor Megaupload, and is currently the major project that Kim Dotcom is currently taking on, which will be launched just a few weeks before Megabox on January 19. After some problems with the law, Kim Dotcom remains under probation, and in the middle of a complicated judicial process in which he could end up being extradited to the U.S. If this new project is launched, he will be in an even more complicated position with the authorities, and could possibly face new charges. So we wonder, if the visionary entrepeneur was arrested again, would Megabox be still be launched?
