The force is intense these days, what with Star Wars: The Force Awakens right around the corner and, with it, the marketing machinery at full throttle. Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes is a free-to-play smartphone game developed by EA whose version for Android is available for download in APK format from Uptodown.
The game takes you through turn-based strategic battles in which you’ll unlock iconic characters from the Star Wars universe, with popular heroes and villains from the two movie trilogies like Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, and Boba Fett as well as more obscure secondary characters from the expanded universe of series and comicbooks, such as Aayla Secura or Cad Bane, and “generic” characters like the inevitable stormtroopers, eewoks, and Tusken Raiders. Enough to stand the hairs on end of any Star Wars fanatic and revolutionize their midi-chlorians.
The game is divided into related missions for you to complete and that will open new challenges (either daily or permanent ones), the increasing difficulty of which will force you to kit out your team of up to five members with objects to power up their abilities. Up to this point, nothing new. In fact, there’s nothing that particularly stands out here and we’ve been seeing this gameplay on the smartphone gaming market for years now. Where Galaxy of Heroes stands out is in how well-designed everything is, at both the aesthetic and recreational levels, with an appealing 3D design throughout and an elegant menu system that pushes you to keep playing. Your correspondent can confirm the latter as fact.
The game’s APK, although at face value only taking up 32 megabytes, later installs additional data from the EA servers as you play, meaning it’s a good idea to have around 300 megabytes free on your device. [Download]
