Late last year, Capcom and Timi Studio Group officially announced a collaboration to develop a new mobile Monster Hunter. This popular saga already produced a few projects for smartphones, but this one seems to be the most ambitious of all, promising to extrapolate the feeling of “freedom to hunt as they desire, anytime and anywhere”, as stated by its creators. Here is everything we know about this game.
Monster Hunter: a successful monster-hunting saga
Before delving into this new Monster Hunter video game, many of you may be wondering what exactly this franchise is all about. It is a series of role-playing and real-time action games that let you create and improve your own hunter of fantastic monsters, each one with its own skills and characteristics. You will have to go to their habitat, chase them and defeat them in a demanding battle from which you will get unique materials to create new tools.
New mobile Monster Hunter
The new mobile Monster Hunter was revealed on November 8, 2022 with a joint announcement by Timi Studio Group and Capcom, the company responsible for the series. In that note, the companies mentioned that the game was already in development by the Chinese studio. It also stated that the mobile Monster Hunter would seek to replicate the iconic hunting formula that defined this successful franchise while offering a new and unique gameplay experience for mobile devices and smartphones.

In other words, Monster Hunter fans can expect this game to be a faithful adaptation of the saga’s gameplay, dynamics and systems but reworked to leverage the unique properties of mobile devices: the developers want to bring Monster Hunter to all players around the world so that they can feel “the freedom to hunt as they desire, anytime and anywhere.” There are also rumors that the game will aim to attract both experienced and new players, so there will surely be some choices to make the game more accessible while still demanding.
Who is developing the new mobile Monster Hunter?
If something is encouraging Monster Hunter fans to foresee a good quality for this mobile game, it’s that its developers can pride themselves on a track record of great titles in their catalog. After all, this title is in the hands of Timi Studio Group, a Chinese developer (although with divisions around the world, such as Los Angeles and Singapore) that has published well-received mobile games such as Pokémon Unite, the Pokémon MOBA and Call of Duty: Mobile. Obviously, the new Monster Hunter does not need to resemble either of these projects.
Release date and requirements of the new mobile Monster Hunter
Although it was announced a few months ago, the truth is that Monster Hunter for mobile still does not have an estimated release date. In fact, neither Timi Studio Group nor Capcom have commented on an approximate time when we will be able to play this long-awaited title. It could be released either this year, the next… As of today, there is no further information. What we do know is that the game is under development, so it’ll be a matter of time to start seeing videos, images and details on the new mobile Monster Hunter.
As for the official requirements, same thing: there is no information whatsoever. Hopefully, as the release approaches, details on smartphone requirements to run the game will be revealed.
Other Monster Hunter games for mobile devices
The truth is that the Monster Hunter saga has already made the leap to mobile devices with a couple of games that are perfect to ease the wait until the release of the new installment. The first one was Monster Hunter Explore, an action title in vertical format that basically transferred the mechanics of the original installments to touch devices, making them simpler and with a slightly more pared-down graphic style. Sadly, the Android version never made it out of Japan, so it’s a game that has to be played untranslated.
There is also Monster Hunter Stories The Adventure Begins, a mobile adaptation of the popular game originally released for Nintendo 3DS. In it, the original Monster Hunter formula is replaced by one more similar to that of games like Pokémon: you play a Rider who captures creatures and sends them out to fight in turn-based duels. There is exploration, dialogs, collection of materials… All represented in a flirtatious graphic section.
