The long-awaited documentary about The Pirate Bay, the famous and controversial torrent file search service, is now available, and it can be accessed on the very same platform that the movie is about (i.e., The Pirate Bay), which means you can download it for free online.
The documentary – one and a half hours in length – follows the story of the popular website founded by Peter Sunde, Fredrik Neij, and Gottfrid Svartholm Warg in Sweden at the beginning of 2004. The movie touches on crucial moments in the website’s history, such as the police raid of 2006.
Financed through a company on Kickstarter, in addition to investments from other media such as the BBC, the documentary “TPB AFW” (The Pirate Bay: Away From Keyboard) premiered last week simultaneously in the Berlin Film Festival and for free online. You can download the torrent file on The Pirate Bay itself (which you can also stream in high definition on Torrent Video Player, for example), or alternatively watch it on YouTube or Vimeo.
You can also purchase it on the documentary’s official website, and support this unique cause. As mentioned by Simon Klose, the director of the documentary, The Pirate Bay has done more to spread torrent culture than the authorities themselves that try to bring an end to the website.
