The “Tales of” saga has been delighting JRPG fans since Tales of Phantasia appeared in 1995. Twenty-two years later Android finally gets a game that does this prolific saga justice: Tales of the Rays is a new spinoff created specifically for smartphones and tablets in which you can experiences the adventures of this RPG franchise in an excellent way. Will you be able to save the world?

Tales of the Rays

When famous video game sagas get adapted to mobile devices, more often than not the game experience gets so diluted that you can hardly see the resemblance between the Android title and the originals. Lots of games have this problem but luckily Tales of the Rays is not one of them. This new member of the “Tales of” family was created with one sole objective in mind: to be as faithful as possible to the famous game saga while taking advantage of the potential of Android devices.

The story in Tales of the Rays revolves around Ix and Mileena, the new stars of the saga who have to travel through different worlds to bring life back to their own. An adventure that leads you to discover and recruit characters from other games in the series, including Yuri and Repede from Tales of Vesperia and Luke fon Fabre from Tales of the Abyss. Don’t forget that the scriptwriter is Takumi Miyajima (Tales of Symphonia, Tales of the Abyss).

The battle system in Tales of the Rays is a special version for mobile devices of the famous Linear Motion Battle System that appears in all the “Tales of” games. You can move freely around the battle scene by tapping the screen, while dealing blows by swiping your finger diagonally on the right side of the screen. A dynamic and fun way to do battle that will keep you concentrated at all times.

Tales of the Rays

Tales of the Rays has all the standard motifs you’d expect from a title in the “Tales of” franchise. Not only does it have an interesting story and a diverse cast, but it also meshes nicely with the particularities of the Android medium: the battle scenes don’t last too long and the controls are perfectly adapted to the touchscreen.
