Google continues to amaze us with the steady arrival of compact versions of their most popular apps, with the latest gem being Gmail Go. The top email manager now has a very interesting “lite” version that looks almost exactly the same as the original app but takes up half the memory space. It’s an alternative that you can now download from Uptodown with no geographic restrictions.
Gmail Go joins Google Go, Files Go, and other reduced versions that occupy prime real estate on devices with Android 8.1. This email manager is great news for anyone with a less powerful smartphone, as it takes up less than 10 MB. Not that the traditional Gmail’s 20 MB are excessive, but it’s always nice to save resources wherever possible.
If we continue comparing the two versions of Gmail, we have to mention that they are so similar that it’s hard to tell one from the other. You can perform the exact same number of tasks and really, you’ll only see slight differences in the the most trivial details: you won’t see the Google Plus header in the different accounts that you’re signed in to, and you won’t see the senders’ profile photos either. In other words, they’ve left out a few details that are practically insignificant for most users.
Gmail Go is an excellent email manager that will let you do exactly what you’ve always done with the traditional Gmail app, while taking up only half the space of the original. Thus, we continue to applaud the Android Go apps that we keep discovering. That said, it is necessary to have a device with Android 8.1 in order to use the app, so many users will probably be left out. We hope Google expands these types of apps to other Android devices so everyone can take full advantage of all they have to offer.
