For many years PowerDVD has been a point of reference among multimedia players for PC. Now with the enormous contraction in market share of physical formats in favor of both local and online digital content, it’s had to change or die. The new PowerDVD19 has turned the iconic program into a comprehensive media center that can play content of all types, and even includes a new version designed to be used on TVs. To celebrate this update, Cyberlink is raffling three full licenses to its Ultra version. We explain below how to enter.
What’s included in PowerDVD19
A more than respectable hub for playing content, with a coherent layout of different media types. You can consume all kinds of content with it, whether you’re viewing video in practically any known format (adapted to current UltraHD standards with 4K resolutions of up to 2160p and even 8K) or cataloging and displaying your photo collection. Its local file search tool also organizes all your content with an added layer of metadata to keep your library up to date. Basically, it’s something like what KODI does.
But with an eye to future growth they’ve also included ways to consume today’s trendiest media types: digital and streamed content. There’s a section to browse your playlists and favorites on sites like YouTube and Vimeo, and you even have 30 gigabytes of cloud storage accessible from the interface if you’re registered on Cyberlink’s Cloud Service. This, alongside the features mentioned above, makes the TV mode more useful than ever, especially if you use it as a living room media center software making use of broadcasting devices like Chromecast, Roku, or Apple TV. You can even control PowerDVD using its official remote control app for Android.
