Once upon a time when you went to an arcade there were certain games that had a special aura. The ones with real-looking motorcycles, flashy machines that simulated a car, and the ubiquitous boxing games. A similar effect emanated from the ever-popular shooters-on-rails, among them legendary sagas like Virtua Cop, Time Crisis, or House of the Dead that also drew big flocks of adolescents. This style of game has largely fallen by the wayside, though we’re always on the prowl looking for heirs to the genre. One of them is Over Touch, an arcade shooter with nothing to envy its distant cousins in the arcades of yore.

Over Touch

Over Touch stands out fast for its appealing simplicity. Tap on all evil forces that appear on the screen to rain a good burst of gunfire down on them. It all plays out fluidly without any slowdown in the action. Your character moves automatically and your sole concern is to eliminate as many enemies as possible without taking too many hits.

Over Touch

It’s not all tapping the screen and shooting villains, though. You can also hide by tapping the corresponding button if you find it impossible to stop an onslaught or one of the axe-wielders or missile-launchers. The game feels like the experience from classic arcade shooters, though you can play it anywhere you want thanks to the mobility of your smartphone.

Besides shooting, you can also upgrade your weapons or the special power you use to strike your enemies. All with the standard coins that you’ll accumulate on your missions. And, hey, take note that it’s never a bad idea to upgrade your arms, as the final bosses are harder than they first appear.

Over Touch is a brilliant title that has the graphics to match its quality. That said, it goes a bit overboard with the totally unnecessary, anime-style fanservice. Leaving that blemish aside, all that’s missing is for the game to shout RELOOOOADDD at you from the device speaker for the arcade experience to be perfect. A game you really cannot miss.
