Opera’s servers were hacked! Change your password now for increased security

If you’re a regular Opera Browser user, you’ll possibly have received an email confirming last week’s attack on their servers that may have compromised some users’ private information. More specifically, information from Opera Sync was exposed thereby leaving gaping security breaches when it comes to cloud syncing passwords and cloud based browser data. Essentially, hackers may have gained access to sensitive information that could seriously affect your privacy and security.

Don’t forget that not every user has been affected by this rift. If you’re on Opera, but don’t use their sync service, you won’t have any issues. However, if you’re an active Opera browser user and ticked the save your settings option within their control panel thereby saving your passwords on several devices, your security is likely at risk. Opera recommends changing ALL of your passwords specifically those that are highly used or stored on their system. In order to confirm whether you’ve been affected or not, just log onto their official Opera Sync site, and you’ll be able to have a look at all the synced content that they’ve got available. Websites, passwords, bookmarks, browser history, etc. Careful though, before starting you should restore your password via Opera Sync by clicking on the “recover password” box.

This is just yet another example of why it’s important to be especially careful when it comes to sharing your private information. Make sure to change up your passwords periodically in order to gain maximum benefit from this type of service. Regardless of how reputable a site is, or how supposedly secure it is, you’ll need to be extra careful and make back up copies of your remotely stored files if you really want them to be safe.
