In the interest of offering more information about our downloads process and improving the transparency of our service, we provide here a few details about important aspects that Uptodown users should take into account when using Uptodown.com.
A crucial part of our work is improving your experience on the site and offering detailed information about what you will find here. What exactly am I downloading? In what format is it packaged? What assurances do I have in regard to the security of this content? Who is responsible for storing these files?
Currently we have 40,000 files divided among five different platforms, all of them stored on our own servers. Running a service that depends so heavily on content and that requires its own dedicated team is expensive; nevertheless, we aim to keep the user impact to a minimum. Our philosophy in that regard rests on a few pillars that we deem essential and that make us different from other download sites.
– On Uptodown we always clearly specify if an application is packaged with other products or incorporates a downloader or some type of installer.
– If it does include an installer, on Uptodown we only allow the user to receive a maximum of two suggested installations. In addition, we ALWAYS include an alternative download link on the same page where you can avoid such suggestions.
– We offer a complete security report prior to the download. To be specific, we use VirusTotal, a scan service that covers 46 different antiviruses, which we use to scan ALL the files in our catalog.
– For security reasons we DO NOT link to third-party file hosters. All files are stored on our own servers. As of a few years ago we no longer direct you to other services during the download —given that we can’t control them— although we do provide the link to the official webpages of program files.
Even still, all this is not enough, and we continue to develop our business model in order to guarantee the best experience to our users: Sponsorship of downloads, ad networks specialized in software, and other actions that allow us to improve the (in many cases abusive) distribution standards that have become prevalent in recent years.
Finally, you already know that we have a presence on all the biggest social networks, including Twitter, Facebook, and Google +, where we welcome your participation, comments, and suggestions for improving our service.
