TikTok has grown very fast in recent years and is currently among the social media with the highest number of active users. Just like YouTube or Instagram, the content offered is very diverse.

In addition, much like the platforms mentioned, TikTok is also a place where you can earn money. In fact, some consider it a full-time job. There are currently three ways—very different from each other—to generate income on this social media. Let’s check them out. Oh, and remember that these tips are applicable to both the Western and Asian TikTok versions.

Platform monetization

Since 2020, TikTok has been paying content creators for generating views on its platform through its creator fund. In order for the service to consider you eligible to receive this income, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be over 18 years of age.
  • Have a minimum number of followers. This depends on the country, but is generally set at 10,000.
  • Total at least 100,000 views in the last 30 days.
  • Have published at least three publications in the last 30 days.

If you meet these criteria, congratulations! You can start earning money by monetizing your views. The downside is, as we’ll see below, you will need lots and lots of them…

To register in the Creator Fund, log in to the app and go to the settings section. If you meet the above requirements, you will see an option that says “Author”. Access it and you will see a section called “TikTok Creators Fund”. Tap on it and fill in the requested information.

It is estimated that TikTok pays between 2 and 4 cents per 1,000 views. This means you can make between 20 and 40 euros for every million views on a video. You can estimate your expected earnings by using one of the many TikTok money calculators available on the web.

Earn money from live videos

Another way to monetize your activity within the app is with the tipping system that the app offers for live broadcasts (the so-called Live). This allows followers to buy and send you gifts (as if they were in-app purchases), that you can later redeem for money when you finish the live stream.

The requirements to be eligible to receive these tips in Live are:

  • Be over 16 years of age.
  • Have over 1,000 followers.
  • Comply with community standards.

Bear in mind that to get followers and views in both your videos and your live streams, you must take care of your profile and create content constantly.

Partner with brands

Another way to earn money on TikTok is to draw the attention of brands and partner with them. Many times you don’t need to have a lot of followers for them to want to sponsor you. In fact, to them, it is more relevant that you prove that you have a strong audience aligned with the product they are selling.

You won’t get rich, but you can earn some extra money by promoting products or services through a simple video. Find a brand you want to partner with (be realistic) and contact them directly with a proposal.

Another option is to join TikTok Creator Marketplace. This is an internal influencer marketing platform where brands can discover TikTok users for their marketing campaigns.
