Learning tools are becoming more and more popular on Android. The ability to learn something new from anywhere in the world with just a smartphone in hand is amazing news. While language learning apps tend to be the most popular option, there’s a good number of apps dedicated to learning how to program. Grasshopper is a new tool that’s here to teach JavaScript in the easiest and most entertaining way possible.

It’s not the first time we’ve talked about the virtues of gamification. Learning through games always makes the task lighter and even more so when you’re just starting out with the material for the first time. Grasshopper has this in mind and focuses the lessons into little puzzles that help you learn the basics of programming Javascript. And best of all, it’s easy on the eyes thanks to its friendly-looking interface.

Just like we’ve seen in other apps like Duolingo and Lingodeer, Grasshopper bases its teaching method on repetition. You start out nice and easy with some simple exercises about making flags and end up responding to more technical questions about code. Without even realizing it, you’ll have learned more about JavaScript than you ever imagined. That said, this app is geared specifically toward newbies in the subject. Anyone who already knows a bit about programming would need a more complex app like we’ve seen in the list of apps for learning how to program.

Grasshopper is a new app from Area 120, the experimental Google program that aims to create interesting new apps that could become more important in the future. While there are already various alternatives for learning how to program on Android, Grasshopper is definitely the best option for getting started with JavaScript. It’s a tool that’s perfectly designed so that anyone can learn how to program, even if they don’t have a clue about the subject.
