The social network created by Mark Zuckerberg keeps improving its services and attempts to make its official apps shine. This is what’s happened with the two latest novelties that individually affect both the Facebook and Messenger apps: the addition of podcasts with Live Audio and the possibility to make group video calls including up to 50 people.

Facebook presents Live Audio

After the announcement of Live 360, Facebook added the capacity to broadcast 360-degree videos, though it was limited to certain pages. That addition will become available to all users in 2017, as will its even more recent addition: live broadcasts using the new Live Audio function.

Live Audio isn’t just aimed at podcast creators, as special emphasis has been placed on the fact that anyone can create live content, though at times the broadcast quality is a bit sketchy. That’s why broadcasting exclusively in audio uses less of your bandwidth. The way it works is just as simple as for broadcasting live video, so anyone should be able to do it.

Group video calls arrive to Facebook Messenger

The increasingly popular Facebook Messenger has also improved its services with a feature that much of its competition already had: group video calls. This new functionality lets you video chat with up to 6 people simultaneously. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg, as connections can be created with up to 50 people. That said, you’ll only see the people who are talking at the moment on the screen.

The central image is reserved for the person who’s talking at that moment, with the remaining callers (up to five of them) displayed at the bottom. Careful with your data consumption, as this is where it can skyrocket. Don’t worry if you can’t use the feature yet, as all profiles will get added bit by bit. What’s clear is that Facebook Messenger is carrying on releasing updates at a quick clip.
